Mary Alice Stevenson "like(s) that she went Au Naturale" and according to the Chicago Tribune Meryl Streep Donated $10,000 to Upward Bound in her honor, while Wendy Williams implied that Viola Davis looked like a man and her natural hair is not fit for a Red Carpet event.
Davis admitted it took some coaxing from her husband and Susan Denley, fashion writer for the LA Times, "thought she looked lovely, and younger too, with the short crop, reddish hue and emerald green Vera Wang gown."
So, if white women like it and think it's lovely, what's with Wendy Williams? Now, I won't go to that place that, in my gut, I want to and call WW all the nasty names I can think of, because Empress Style! is not a place for negativity. However, it really does speak to self hatred and the hatred of others that black women have become so commonly known for.
Some might say that it's just her job. That it's what she's paid to do what she does but I'm with Janet Hubert, when she said that we never "needed you to try and take down another brilliant sister" in her open letter to WW. She really needs to stop and get herself together. Furthermore, I say to anyone who makes a habit of watching her show, we MUST DO BETTER. Wendy Williams does not represent me. From what I have seen of her work, Viola Davis is a brilliant actress and phenomenal artist and Wendy Williams is just, well, you fill in the blank.
Kick rocks in flip flops, Wendy Williams!
